The Chemical Industry

AT THE HEART OF LOUISIANA

Learn more about the good things the chemical industry is doing in Louisiana.

THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

At the Heart of Our Way of Life

Thanks to the chemical industry, Louisiana is stronger than ever. Chemicals are responsible for creating new jobs, resources, and opportunities for Bayou State families. Our children enjoy quality education, our teachers receive competitive salaries, and our workers earn enough to comfortably support their families’ lifestyles.

The chemical industry has shaped our way of life. Chemical jobs have been passed down from generation to generation, employing nearly 30,000 people today. Of all of Louisiana’s industries, it consistently pays one of the highest wages in the manufacturing sector, second only to petroleum refining.

Louisiana’s future depends on the chemical industry’s success. Thanks to chemicals, our state has become a competitive national and international exporter of essential goods. In 2017, Louisiana shipped more than $9.7 billion in products to other parts of the world—about 16% of our state’s total production. Louisiana chemicals are an asset to the United States.
